To Buy or Not to Buy: Powerbars

Hello and welcome to my first ever blog. My name is Gobrox. Now I know that the internet is overflowing with blogs; some good, some bad, some that just take up space. But I had a thought, I might as well fill the internet with my random dribblings and comments as well. But I'm not going to do just any blog about my everyday life or some garbage like that, I decided that I am going to this blog about the items we see in stores everyday and just make us wonder thoughts like: should I really try that; what is that; are you kidding me; and what is that really like?

Every time I go to 7-11 I always see these power/energy/protein bars. I've always wondered what do these things really taste like? They've been around for a very long time so people must obviously buy them, so they couldn't be too bad... right? I used to be a weight lifter and items like this used to interest me, but over time I have become a nerd that tends to skip meals and sometimes I need something quick to eat.

So here is our item for today, it is a PowerBar Protein Plus bar, vanilla yogurt flavor. Wow, sounds so delicious I'm getting sick already. According to the packaging they are supposed to give sustained energy and, if eaten before or after exercise, can help build a lean body. Well I am going to test out the taste and claim of the sustained energy. I've never really tried any energy products such as RedBull or the 5 Hour Energy shots so I am expecting to feel a little more pepped up.

I read the packaging up and down and there are quite a few vitamins and minerals inside of it, plus it doesn't look much worse than what might be in any fast food meal. Upon opening the package, I got a whiff of what smelled like the white chocolate covered pretzels. Wanting to turn back now, I decide to push on.

When I took my first bite I thought I would never stop chewing. It was almost like I was trying to chew a bunch of gum at once. The coating of the bar tastes almost exactly to the white chocolate covered pretzels whereas the inside had absolutely no taste at all and had canceled out the taste of the coating. It wasn't disgusting, just very strange and scary that something had canceled out all previous tastes in my mouth. I have had vanilla yogurt and that did not taste anything like vanilla yogurt. So if you are wanting something tasty, just grab a candy bar or probably just about anything off the ground.

Like I said before, I have not had any sort of energy drinks or bar before but this did pep me up. I felt a boost of energy that kept me going for a while but this is not the type of energy boost you want if you have been awake for five days. This is definitely a nice afternoon boost but could easily be replaced with either a soda, candy bar or maybe even an energy drink. I can say for certain that one of those would definitely be tastier.

Overall, if you are looking for a tasty treat, get something else. If you are looking to put a little pep in your step, get something else. I would say that the PowerBar was not worth the dollar I paid for it. So take my advice, if your are looking what to buy or not to buy, ask me.
